Habakkuk 3:19 KJV
“The Lord God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet , and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.”
I recently went to the cinema to watch the latest superhero movie. Truth be told, superhero movies are my guilty pleasure. Why do I watch them? Well, I’ve always loved action-adventure, and when you add in a good comedy, then that’s my jam!
Anyway, superheroes as the movies depict are figures of fantasy. They are unrealistic and pretty much exist as entertainment. Nobody sane believes people with superpowers actually exist.
However, being a hind with feet which are able to scale high places is the closest you can get to being a person of interest.
Have you ever seen a goat climbing up high and craggy rocks very effortlessly? Watch a National Geographic or Animal Planet documentary. You’ll see what I mean.
This particular animal is literally the mountain climber with amazing powers. It has the ability to nimbly skip up mountains, jump from rock to rock, and barrel down steep gorges effortlessly.
If I were a human who can do this just as easily, I’d be a superhuman!
But wait, the Bible says I can and I am! Habakkuk was such a person. He talked of having hinds’ feet in high places.
What is the meaning of this?
In your life, there are mountains, valleys, steep cliffs and deep gorges. There are dark and dangerous places; there are the impossibly high towers. You need to move over them, as much as you need to climb up and down the towering places. As such, you need to be nimble on your feet. You also need to have strong feet. Such is the hind’s feet: nimble and strong.
And so the Lord of your strength, He will make you as such. He will give you the strength and power to jump, climb, scale, skip and hop all over your high and low places both. Is there a place too hard for you to reach? Not with His help and His strength.
You might not have the literal hinds’ feet, but you will definitely have His literal supernatural strength and power.
If people are so ready to believe in make-believe superheroes with superpowers, then why don’t you believe in having God-given abilities to conquer your villains in life?
Be that hind, and get to your high places.
I can’t end this without mentioning this great book by Hannah Hurnard I read many years ago, which truly inspires me until now.
